What we offer

We can assess illustrated books for both trade and education, fiction and nonfiction.

If you have a manuscript you have illustrated or are about to illustrate, we can help you work out the process you need to go through to bring it out of your suitcase and into the world. You may have had a rejection from a publisher and wondered why, or perhaps you are unsure of the standard of your work, or how to take the next step.

It is quite common for a couple of friends or family members to get together and nut out a story with pictures. Should you send it to a publisher? If so, in what format and how many illustrations will they want to see? How else could it be published?

We can help you in those early stages of a book's life. If it's an appraisal of the story, we have some useful links for manuscript assessors in New Zealand. We don't make comment on the words- we are the picture people!

For a full assessment, we will need copies of your illustrations and the accompanying text via email or hardcopy. Please email us for the details on how and where to send your work. We will assess your illustrations from a technical point of view, including an evaluation of style, character development, continuity of characters, how well they complement the text and assist with literacy. Our assessment  may also include suggestions for how your illustrations might benefit from new perspectives, techniques or different media.

Full Assessment $280 (includes GST)

Assessments may take up to 4 weeks.

Please include payment in advance by electronic transfer.

Please bear in mind that we do not act as agents and that assessment is so that you can take your illustration to a higher and more publishable level. We cannot provide any guarantee of a publishing contract. However, we are well networked and can offer points of contact for your work, industry standards and technical advice for submission.
